I am writing this at midnight, in shock, as I have just pulled up the first “Motherhood” entry on my blog (which I started at the height of the COVID pandemic) and discovered that it has BEEN A YEAR!! It’s also been close to 9 months since my last entry on motherhood because 1) my full-time job, motherhood and personal obligations have been my priorities and 2) I have been devoting most of my free time (which I get from sacrificing sleep) on my YouTube videos and recipe testing & development. Undoubtedly, motherhood is still a big part of me and makes up a big portion of my daily life, so here I am with updates!
Since my last entry, my daughter has turned 3!! Time surely does fly. While COVID has resulted in a year long cabin fever, I honestly don’t know where the time has gone nor realize how quickly it has gone. For her 3rd birthday, we kept it simple and invited my family and in-laws over for 2 separate parties. I did create a brief IGTV covering the decorations I used and DIY props I made (using prior year’s photo booth props), so check it out and follow my mommy IG account if you’d like 😊.
During the past year, my daughter stayed home with us some days and attended school some days. Daycare was also closed for a few months during COVID spikes, so both Steve and I tag teamed while juggling work and parenthood. I cherish the additional time spent with my daughter, although I was driven to my boiling point during a couple of instances. While checking off my to-do list from my full-time job, I kept a mental mom checklist of educational toys I should buy & learning and fun activities we should do together – basically anything that she’d potentially be doing, if she was still attending school. I understand that after this pandemic is over and life reverts to normalcy, which includes spending many hours on the train to get to the office, time with my daughter will be reduced. For this reason, I stare at her longer than I normally would, play with her when possible and watch her grow as much as I can. At the same time, I turn on the TV when I need a break … because quite honestly, I haven’t had to endure this much, everyday, for 24 hours a day. I bet all working from home parents can attest to that!
It’s crazy thinking back and realizing how much has changed since this pandemic hit. My daughter was still being potty trained when we had to pull her out of daycare instantly. A couple months later, she was running around the house diaper-less. A year later, she’s independently walking in and out of the bathroom like her mommy and daddy. A year ago, she was just learning to write her name. Now, I find her sitting at her table, quietly drawing, writing random letters of the alphabet and breezing through her name like a champ. Children develop so quickly and it’s amazing witnessing the conversions before your very own eyes.
As the US is making headway in vaccinations, we see a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m not sure what this means for us working from home parents and when we will be hopping on NYC subways again, but what I know is I will miss the extra time spent with my daughter. At least I have a few YouTube videos to look back to, as precious reminders of the moments we shared together in our kitchen. Check them out if you’re interested 🥰 and stay safe ya’ll!
