I LOVEEEEE POMEGRANATES!! This is a fruit that I grew up snacking on, as my now deceased mother used to pick them up for me from the supermarket, allowing me to snack on the seeds while enjoying a Chinese movie with the family. While you may think that she just handed me a bowl of seeds to munch on, which wouldn’t require any work on my part (besides eating them) … my mom actually handed me sections and made me do my own work 😆. Thanks to her, I am now very familiar with deseeding pomegranates!
Even now, decades after my mom has passed, I think about her every single time I have pomegranates. Recently, I started having my 3 year old toddler deseed the sections for me, just as my mother would 😁. Not only does it keep my toddler occupied, it lends me extra time to get other things done!
If you have not tried pomegranates, I would highly recommend you do so NOW! Not only are they tasty, possessing both tart and sweet flavors, they also offer many health benefits (and antioxidants!). How to Cut and Deseed a Pomegranate
Instructions
- Wash the exterior of the pomegranate thoroughly.
- Using a knife, remove the crown of the pomegranate, until you see the seeds and ridges from the top. The ridges are white lines that separate the pomegranate into individual sections.
- Score the skin, from top to bottom, cutting along the ridges.
- Using your fingers, gently pry the pomegranate open, breaking it into sections.
- Working with one section at a time, gently push the seeds away from the white membranes into a large bowl. You may deseed while submerging each section underwater as well to avoid juice from splattering everywhere.
- Run the bowl of seeds with some water. Using a strainer or your hands, remove the membranes that float to the surface until only seeds remain.
- Carefully strain the water or pour the seeds into a colander. Enjoy!

Notes
- If you do not see ridges, just cut along the skin (not cutting too deep, or you will puncture the seeds and cause a mess!)
